Apni Party’s fear forced Mehbooba to accept Farooq’s leadership
10/15/2020 12:28:00 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 14: Fear of newly formed J&K Apni Party has forced two arch rivals-National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join hands to ‘fight’ for restoration of Article 370 and statehood for J&K.
As the majority of the mass base PDP leaders have already joined the Apni Party, leaders of the ‘cadre based’ NC are also very much aware that the newly formed political party would give a tough challenge in the coming days.
Sources said that it was all due to this fear that NC top-brass has decided to join hands with arch rival PDP. Within hours after her release from detention both Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah went to the residence of Mehbooba Mufti to give a message of unity among ‘Gupkar signatories’.
“My father & I called on @ehboobaMufti Sahiba this afternoon to enquire about her well-being after her release from detention. She has kindly accepted Farooq Sb’s invitation to join a meeting of the Gupkar Declaration signatories tomorrow afternoon”, Omar Abdullah tweeted.
Reacting to the goodwill gesture of Abdullahs, Mehbooba also retweeted, “It was nice of you & Farooq sahab to come home. It gave me courage listening to him. Im sure together we all can change things for the better”.
Sources said that Mehbooba Mufti has decided to work under the leadership of Farooq Abdullah because she has realized that most of the mass base leaders have already deserted her party so at this point support of NC will help her to retrieve the lost ground.
Although founder of the PDP Mufti Mohammad Sayeed through-out his life fought against Abdullahs, Mehbooba is ready to accept the leadership of Farooq Abdullah only to revive her own party.
Secondly, sources said, both the parties were very much aware that Narendra Modi led NDA government at the Centre was not ready to succumb to their pressure tactics so there was no option but to jointly put pressure on the Centre, which has a soft corner towards the Apni Party.
Political analysts were of the view that both PDP and NC leaderships were trying to seek each-other’s help at this crucial juncture only to counter the Apni Party.
As Congress has already maintained a distance from so-called ‘Gupkar declaration’, both NC and PDP have realized they have to present a united face for the time being. Things would be cleared only on Thursday after meeting of the ‘Gupkar Declaration signatories’.
