Low turnout reported in 8th phase by migrant voters | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 19: The polling in last phase of district Development Council elections for Kashmiri migrants has also been very low in all the 14 DDC constituencies of Kashmir Valley which went to polls today. No enthusiasm was seen in the last phase of polling today both at special polling booths at Jammu and Udhampur. Though morning fog and cold weather could be ascertained a reason for less turnout for morning voters in the morning hours but voting did not pick up in the afternoon when it was a Sunny day. In all 14 constituencies only 363 migrants turned up to cast their vote in Government Degree College for women at Gandhi Nagar out of 7000 voters. It may be recalled that Kashmiri migrants did not show any interest in voting during all the eight phases of DDC elections despite the fact the voting system was sympathised this time by deleting the M Form. System as migrants had many objections about the same and they turned the same as cumbersome. However despite that the migrants did not show any interst in voting and only three to four percent polling was recoded by migrants in all the phases as the community has lost total interest in election process. Some migrants while reacting on less percentage of voting said that what fun they have to elect the DDC members in Kashmir when they have been thrown out from there over 31 years back. What difference it will make for them if they vote in these elections as they will not be benefitted by this any more. |
