Jammu, Dec 19: Star BJP campaigners forgot local issues and castigated what they called “Gupkar-Gang” during the campaign trail for maiden DDC polls held in Jammu and Kashmir. Polling for the eight-phase DDC polls culminated today and the counting will take place on December 22 for the 280 DDC constituencies. The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) star campaigners for the maiden DDC elections were senior leaders like Jitendra Singh, Smriti Irani, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Anurag Thakur and others. Paradoxically, during their campaign in Jammu division, BJP leaders Anurag Thakur and Smirit Irani’s statements revolved around the “Gupkar-Gang”, it proved that BJP contested these polls by disapproving Kashmiri leadership, especially NC, PDP, PC, CPM, INC and other parties that were a part of People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD). However, these issues were not even highlighted during the election rallies. Jammuites were expecting restoration of 4-G internet services in nine districts of Jammu division excluding Udhampur. The people of Jammu were also disappointed with back-to-back two toll plazas one at Sarore and another at Lakhanpur, and were expecting some relief, but it could not find any mention in most of speeches made by these leaders during rallies and public meetings. After scrapping the Roshi Act, hundreds of poor landless farmers and other weaker sections are likely to lose their dwellings and homes but these leaders remained silent on it as well. There was no mention of better education, support for the poor people who suffered losses during lock down imposed in the wake of COVID-pandemic. |
