Vehicle owners resent late fee charge for renewal of old RCs | | | GURDAS KUMAR
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SAMBA, Dec 25: The owners of the vehicles older than fifteen years had heaved a sigh of relief after the Transport Department issued an order to give nod to extension to the life of such vehicles; however, their happiness over the decision was short-lived as the concerned authority is charging late fee from the applicants for renewal of Registration Certificate (RCs). Several people at the time of applying for extension of the life of their vehicles are asked to pay the requisite RC renewal fee but to their astonishment the Transport Department is also adding the late fee of 14 months to issue the certificate. Vehicle owners including Harsh Shrama, Amit Kumar, and many others from Samba District alleged that they are forced to pay extra for the mistake of the Transport Department as it was the department that had banned the token tax and gave its consent to extend the life of the vehicles after a gap of months. They further said that this is not their fault, if the Transport Department would have timely issued an order for extending the life of vehicles then there is no resentment among the people. They further said that why the department is charging a late fee for 14 months from them, adding that the high officials of the department should explain the logic behind such a decision. The aggrieved vehicle owners urged the Lieutenant Governor and Secretary Transport Department to look into the matter and resolve this issue so that the people do not face any difficulty. |
