Kashmir centric parties need crutches to survive? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 25: Results of the recently held District Development Council (DDC) elections are an indication that the Kashmir centric parties cannot survive individually and these political formations need crutches to survive. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “If we go by the vote share of the National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party, Peoples Conference and other constituents of the Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) it has becomes amply clear that individually these parties don’t stand anywhere.” He said, “The percentage of votes secured by these parties in the DDC polls has exposed the so-called representative character of these parties and leaders.” He said that the PAGD leaders who are claiming victory should go through the percentage of the votes secured by these parties. “In the past these parties had thrived on the boycott politics as the votes secured by them during the past three decades were meagre. They ruled J&K by selling fear and deception,” the analyst added. An observer said, “After the abrogation of Article 370, political scenario in J&K has changed completely. The Kashmir centric parties that ruled the erstwhile state always used to tell the Centre that they only can rule Jammu and Kashmir but that myth stands shattered as on date. The new generation of politicians in J&K is holding the tricolor close to their hearts and are ready to sacrifice their lives for the nation. The days of selling sedition and separatism are over. The ones who used to sell illusions and dreams stand exposed. The PDP, which used to claim that it represents the aspirations of masses stands decimated. It just managed to get nearly 4% votes in the DDC polls. The PDP has lost its ground in the Valley.” Another analyst said, “Once the delimitation process is completed in the Union Territory, it will bring Jammu and Kashmir regions at par with each other. Winning assembly elections won’t be a cakewalk for PAGD as it will face stiff competition in Jammu.” |
