SMC unseals influential doctor’s illegal building in Srinagar | Nursing Garh locals seek Raj Bhawan intervention | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 27: In brazen violation of norms, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation has unsealed a building owned by an “influential doctor” that is being used for commercial purpose in a residential locality here. The resentment is brewing among the residents of areas like Nursing Garh and Bargarden, the twin localities falling in the vicinity of the SMC head office in Srinagar as the civic body has unsealed some of the buildings that were unlawfully running commercial establishments in the residential colony. Following the complaints filed by the residents of Nursing Garh and Bargarden, the SMC had sealed a building that was being used for grossly commercial purpose by one “influential” doctor who has shifted from the place and now uses his ancestral home for business purpose. Sources said the locals had threatened to file the complaint at the Raj Bhawan should the SMC fail to initiate action. Sources said during an on the post inspection, it was found that not only the building in question but another one adjacent to it was also being used for “grossly commercial purpose” thereby drawing flak from the residents of the colony established by the Dogra Maharajas. Sources said subsequently the “influential doctor” called on the SMC officials and went for an alleged “deal” to get his building unsealed. Official documents as accessed by the Early Times reveal that the SMC has unsealed the building vide a formal order on December 4, 2020. “May be desealed however with instructions to shift to some commercial area if the area is fully residential,” reads the order issued by the SMC. The aggrieved locals said since then the doctor has been using the said building for commercial purpose again. “He has only increased the commercial activity since. So much commercial activity is gross infringement into our privacy and one can only wonder why the babus went for a deal only to make our miserable,” the locals said. When contacted a senior official said that there were “pressures due to which the building had to be unsealed.” Meanwhile the locals have appealed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Principal Secretary Housing to personally look into the matter. |
