With term ending this month Azad plays ‘safe’ in Rajya Sabha | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Feb 3: As his term is going to expire by the end of this month, leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha and senior Congress leader, Ghulam Nabi Azad today played very safe in the Upper House of the Parliament. On the one hand, he asked the government to bring a bill to restore statehood to J&K, Azad ‘intentionally’ ignored the demand of bringing back Article 370 and 35-A in J&K. Without demanding restoration of Article 370 and 35-A, Azad said that with the abrogation of these articles anyone can buy their land. “Job opportunities were earlier exclusively available for J&K residents. Jammu people aren't even happy as the maximum land will be borrowed there alone with Punjab near it”, he said. “Earlier some advertised posts were repealed immediately after resentment in Jammu as it invited applications to pan-India. Some national-level interviewers published were also withdrawn”, he said. “Transporters, Shopkeepers, and Unemployed in Jammu are unhappy. No one in Ladakh, Kashmir, and Jammu are happy with the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A.”, said without demanding restoration of these two articles. Azad seized the opportunity to hail Prime Minister Narendra Modi for successfully conducting maiden DDCs elections in J&K. “I congratulated them for conducting this as it was an old demand to empower the Panchayat Raj system initially the process was started by Congress itself. DDC is a good step. We praise the Central government for maiden elections”, he said. Although Azad asked the government to bring back three firm laws, he echoed the stand of the government on the unfortunate incident at Red Fort on Republic Day. He demanded that strict action should be taken against those involved in violence at Red Fort on January 26 during the farmers’ tractor rally against new farm laws. “What happened at the Red Fort should not have happened. It was against democracy and law and order. The insult of the national flag at a place from where the Prime Minister addresses the nation cannot be tolerated”, he asserted, adding, “Strict action should be taken against whoever was involved. But at the same time, I want to say that no attempt should be made to implicate innocent farmer leaders in false cases”. |
