EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 8: The dilapidated condition of roads in J&K, including Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, is giving tough time to the commuters, said Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and social activist Gurmeet Singh. In a statement issued here today, AAP leader Gurmeet Singh said that many accidents take place every year due to the bad condition of roads, adding that this problem of poor roads is quite widespread in J&K. Singh said that these accidents can be stopped by making quality roads and timely repair of the broken roads and poor drainage system along the roads. The condition of the roads has gone from bad to worse in various parts of J&K and it has become a herculean task for motorists, especially two-wheeler riders to commute on these roads, he added. He further said that apart from other trouble, the wear and tear of vehicles has unduly gone up as the suspensions get damaged and also the tyres, which burden the pockets of common man. “The bad roads have further damaged Jammu & Kashmir’s economy,” said the statement, adding 270-km Jammu-Srinagar National Highway continues to remain a nightmare and a death trap for the commuters due to the pathetic condition of the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country.
