Jammu, Feb 8: Many eye-brows have been raised as Prime Minister, Narendra Modi today lavished all praise on leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad for speaking with maturity in the Upper House of Parliament. The Prime Minister further added that all Members of the Parliament (MPs) have learnt so much from the experience of Ghulam Nabi Azad. “I was listening to the respectable Ghulam Nabi Azad ji. He always speaks with sweetness and maturity. He never uses any harsh words during his speech”, Prime Minister said while speaking on Motion of Thanks to the President's Address in the Rajya Sabha. “I have very high regard for Ghulam Nabi Azad”, he said and complimented Azad for appreciating the government's decision to conduct Panchayat, Block Development Councils (BDCs) and District Development Councils (DDCs) elections in J&K. “These elections were conducted to strengthen grass-root democracy in J&K. I am thankful to Ghulam Nabi Azad for supporting this decision of the government”. The Prime Minister, however, seized this opportunity to attack Congress leadership for ignoring senior leaders who have written a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi. “I am optimistic that your leadership will take praise in real spirit”, he told Azad, adding, “Congress leadership will not commit a mistake by presuming it as a view point of G-23”. Notable in the month of August last year, 23 senior Congress leaders had written to the party president, with a raft of suggestions. Six years after the party’s electoral rout pushed it into a continuing downward spiral, 23 senior leaders of the Congress, including five former Chief Ministers, many Congress Working Committee members, sitting MPs, and several former Union Ministers, have, in an unprecedented pushback, sent a letter to party chief Sonia Gandhi calling for sweeping changes, from top to bottom. |
