Gupkar Alliance crumbles, loses 2 more DDCs
NC fails to keep its flock together

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 8: Amid the fiasco engulfing the political woods in Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) is in trouble again. Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party, Peoples Conference and PDP’s former patriarch Muzaffar Hussain Beigh seem to have opened a parallel front against the conglomerate, leaving the NC and PDP leadership petrified to the core. According to the sources, Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party has announced the support to Safina Beigh wife of Muzaffar Hussain Beigh in her contest for the DDC chairperson seat in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Further, Peoples Conference on Monday bagged the key post of chairperson of district development council in politically—significant Kupwara district. In the election meeting held in Kupwara, PC’s Irfan Panditpuri was unanimously elected as chairman of the District Development Council while four members from National Conference remained absent from proceedings but they failed to ensure abstentions from three other members from Apni Party, Awami Ittehad Party and an independent candidate.
Sources inform that there again Sajad Lone’s party had insidious support of JKAP.
Speculations, meanwhile are rife that Muzaffar Hussain Beigh, Apni Party and Peoples Conference led by Sajad Gani Lone are mulling to create anti- PAGD front in Kashmir wherein the policies and plans of the amalgam are countered and foiled by the trio.
Muzaffar Beigh the founding member of the PDP resigned from the party in November last year citing indifference over the seat sharing by the PAGD leadership during the DDC polls. “NC is fighting on majority seats. It is not in the interests of the PDP. I respect Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and I wish them luck. I am leaving PDP on principle.
I was not consulted regarding seat sharing agreement with PAGD affiliated parties. Today evening I called her(Mehbooba) and told her about resignation from PDP as a patron and a member,” Beigh was quoted by the local agencies in Kashmir as having said soon after he tendered his resignation.
On January 19, this year, PC’s Sajad Gani Lone pulled out of the PAGD that was formed against the abolition of Article 370 and bifurcation of the erstwhile state into two Union Territories. Lone, who was the spokesperson for the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), said had cited “breach of trust between partners, which is beyond remedy”, as reason for his party pulling out from the amalgam.
Meanwhile, now when the DDC polls are over and political turf is turning sultry over the posts of DDC chairpersons, the formation of the anti-PAGD front could possibly contribute to the changing dynamics of Kashmir politics that emerged after the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.
