Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 15: Pioneer trekking club of Jammu, organized a day long trek to Devi Pindian, exclusively for girls, under the leadership of Sonam Sidharth. The group of 114 persons which included 102 girls was flagged off from Kala Kendra, Jammu by Co- Chairman of Tawi Trekkers J&K Zorawar Singh Jamwal who is also Chairman of Team Jammu. President of the club Ram Khajuria, Vice President of Mountaineering Association of J&K Sumit Khajuria, senior members Shashi Kant Sharma, Manik Slathia, Sunil Chakharia and international sport climbers Shilpa Charak and Ajay Deep Singh also accompanied the trekkers. The budding trekkers were pleasantly surprised when Everester Rajiv Sharma of Udhampur who climbed Everest about 27 years back in 1993 also joined them for the trek at Manthal along with his wife and daughter Himika, an international skier. The young trekkers were thrilled to learn so much about mountaineering and mountains during their interaction during the trek with the veteran mountaineer who has retired as Dy. Director Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering & Allied Spots, Manali. The trek started from a beautiful forest nursery very well maintained by forest department of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board at Panthal, about 7 kms from Katra. Before the start of the trek Everester Rajiv Sharma delivered a short lecture on the importance of Mountains and the role they play in our life. He asked the participants to keep the mountains clean whenever they go for trekking. |
