Early Times Report

Udhampur, Feb 15: In an era of e-learning, students of Primary school Mani in Block Ghordi of District Udhampur are still forced to attend classes under open sky as school building is yet to be completed due to alleged negligence of the contractor and the concerned department.
The construction work of Government Primary School in Mani Village of Block Ghordi in district Udhampur started in 2006 but since then only one structure has been built. The construction was stopped due to unknown reasons. The building being left incomplete has put a question mark on the education system in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the sources the contractor is father of one of the teachers working in the said school. Villagers said that every year government send funds to the school under SAMAGRA, TLM and various other schemes for the welfare of the students but no one knows where the fund has been going for the past 15 years. Villagers said that future of their children is bleak.
“We have approached the concerned authorities on many occasions and apprised them about school building being incomplete but no action has been taken till date,” they added.
Earlier 40 students were enrolled in the said school but now only 32 students have been left there.
Ganesh Kumar a local resident said that the work was abandoned due to unknown reasons.
He alleged that the teachers don’t attend their duties regularly.
Arti Sharma Block Development Council Chairman Ghordi today visited the school and demanded that high level enquiry into why the school building has not been completed despite enough funds being available.
