Green gold set on fire, forest department in deep slumber | | | Early Times Report BARAMULLA, Feb 15: The second incident of forest fire has been reported from Uri today, while five persons including three family members had suffered burn injuries among which two succumbed to injuries in a Srinagar hospital. Locals blamed that the forest department is in deep slumber. Sources said on February 7 forest was set on fire by some unidentified persons in Sultandaki area of Uri sector and with the result five persons including three family members suffered burn injuries among which two succumbed their injuries in Srinagar hospital. The injured persons were identified as Sajid Ahmed s/o Abdual Razaak Sheikh, Abdul Wahid s/o Abdual Rasheed Khan, Abdual Rasheed s/o Abdul Kareem, Roshan Begum w/o Abdual Rasheed, and Mufad Mir s/o Mohammad Youns Mir. Among the five injured persons, Sajid and Wahid succumbed to injuries in Srinagar hospital. After Sultandaki, another forest area in Kamalkote sector was set on fire by some unidentified elements only to grab the forest land, sources said. They said that the villagers had kept their dried grass in a forest area in Sultandaki that was set on fire by some unidentified persons; they alleged that the timber smugglers wanted to grab the forest land illegally. This is not the first incident but in the past scores of green trees were gutted in the mysterious fire incidents in Kashmir valley, and with the result the department concerned seems in a deep slumber, as they have failed to take any action against the accused, locals alleged. |
