NC, PDP appear to be ‘unhappy’ with deporting Rohingyas illegally living in Jammu | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Mar 8: National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appeared to be not happy with the serious initiatives taken by the authorities to the Rohingyas illegally living in Jammu. While as NC president and former chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah demanded that the issue must be addressed through humanitarian angle PDP president Mehbooba Mufti retweeted some stories filed in media to highlight the ‘plight’ of Rohingyas illegally living in Jammu. Dr Abdullah argued that Rohingyas were living in Jammu after they were declared as refugees by the United Nations. “India is one of the signatory of UN charter”, he said and it was purely a humanitarian issue which should be solved through human angle. Instead of directly opposing deportation of Rohingyas, Mehbooba Mufti re-tweeted some stories in which this decision was opposed. Earlier during the PDP-BJP regime in the year 2018, PDP had cautioned against “communalising” stay of Rohingya Muslims in Jammu and argued that the refugees from Myanmar were “protected under international laws” to which the government of India was a signatory. The PDP had refuted claims by the BJP that the Rohingya were a threat to national security who could be used by terrorists to attack India. |
