Scolded by high-command J&K BJP drops statehood, early assembly polls demands | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 8: The J&K unit of BJP deleted demands of early Assembly elections and restoration of statehood from its political resolution moved in the state executive committee meeting after being scolded by the party high-command for showing desperation to get the power. Sources said that high-command has warned J&K unit leaders against raising such demands without taking central leadership on the board. Reliable sources said that without consulting high-command some power hungry BJP leaders had incorporated the demand of holding early Assembly elections in the Union Territory (UT) and restoration of statehood. “As party high-command snubbed J&K unit for showing desperation and eagerness to attain power, these two demands were deleted at the eleventh hour”, sources said, adding, “these two demands were incorporated without consulting office bearers of the party”. Sources said that in the earlier drafted political resolution, the party had demanded early Assembly elections in J&K and also demanded restoration of statehood as the same has already been promised on the floor of the Parliament that the status of the UT to J&K will be changed to State. Sources said that some leaders of the J&K unit of the party were desperate to get power as they had first got a taste of government during the PDP-BJP regime so they were devising strategies to ensure that Assembly elections would be held as early as possible. As reported earlier by the Early Times, BJP central leadership took some local leaders to task for showing desperation to attain power by ‘bartering national interests’. Central leadership has taken serious note of the recent demand of J&K based leaders to hold assembly elections as early as possible and also to restore statehood. Sources said that by extending the tenure of the Delimitation Commission by one year, the Union Government has already hinted that Assembly elections would be unlikely to be held in the year 2021 but some local leaders were trying to mount pressure on the government to hold elections as early as possible. |
