EARLY TIMES REPORT

POONCH, Mar 9: In a serious violation of service rules, several employees of National Health Mission (NHM) from Pir Panjal area have reportedly attended exams of their B.Sc Nursing course without prior information to the Health Department as a result of which the patients are suffering.
Shockingly instead of taking action against the employees for their dereliction in duties, the senior officials of the department came in front to defend them for their omission.
Sources in the department informed that the NHM employees are permitted to appear in exams during their job but complete violation of rules were seen.
Already the functioning of health institutions in the hilly districts is deteriorating due to shortage of doctors and other staff and now due to exams, the employees are absent from their duties. When reports reached the concerned officers, they tried to shield them by saying these employees might have taken permission but the fact of the matter is that no permission was taken by them.
Locals alleged that not only the paramedic staff, even doctors were hardly seen present in the hospitals. “Many doctors are involved in malpractice by prescribing medicines which are available only in a particular pharmacy and at times doctors force the patients to visit them in their private clinics for their vested interests,” they alleged.
The Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) of concerned districts of Pir Panjal when contacted about the absence of the NHM employees, they escaped the queries.
Meanwhile the concerned Medical Superintendent gave a weird reply by saying that these employees might have taken permission but he was not sure. Despite repeated attempts Director Health Services Jammu, couldn’t be contacted.
