JAMMU, Mar 9: Had struggled a lot in the past to take its investigations to a logical conclusion largely due to shortage of staff, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) with induction of new officers is all set to prove its mettle in near future. Official sources informed Early Times that in the past the agency was registering around 70 FIRs annually, but the number in future would certainly go high. “There was huge shortage of staff, especially of Investigation Officers (IOs), but recently 22 officers of Inspectors’ rank from different wings of JKP have joined ACB”, said an officer, adding that the agency was receiving over hundreds of complaints on monthly basis, but due to shortage of staff it was difficult to respond all the complaint at once. “Eight officers working in ACB shifted in different wings of JKP while 22 new officers were inducted vide PHQ order No 758 of 2021 dated 23/02/2021, in which 125 Police Officers of Inspectors’ rank were reshuffled”, they said. According to last five-year data of FIRs registered by the State Vigilance Organization, now ACB, in 2015 total 98 cases were registered 43 in Jammu and 55 in Kashmir province, in 2016 total 54 cases 31 in Jammu and 23 in Kashmir, 2017 total 79 FIRs registered 46 in Jammu and 33 in Kashmir, in 2018 total 82 cases registered 47 in Jammu and 35 in Kashmir, in 2019 total 73 FIRs Jammu 40 and Kashmir 33, 2020 total 71 FIRs were registered 33 in Jammu and 38 in Kashmir. During the current year till date total 17 FIRs have been registered. “Apart from traditional mode of communication through postal service, the ACB is also receiving complaints on the agency's twitter handle, whatsapp, e-mail and other medium of social media”, the officer said. “Lt Governor Manoj Sinha is personally taking pain to make corruption free system, the Raj Bhawan is also sending many corruption related cases to ACB”, sources said, adding that the ACB Chief Anand Jain has kept his door open, any citizen can send his/her corruption related cases to him. |
