SAMBA, Mar 15: Government Degree College Vijaypur, today organized a Seminar on the theme “Tackling Plastic Pollution” to mark the World Consumer Rights Day. Speaking at the event, Principal of the college, Dr. Sangeeta Sudan highlighted the importance of the Consumers Rights.” The consumer rights are imperative and required to be affirmed by the students (consumers) at large”, she said in her keynote speech. She stressed that the rights of the consumers are needed to be protected and creating mass awareness about the same. “Celebrating this day is a mark of respect for consumer rights, which abstains the marketers against social injustice and exploitation of consumers. The speaker of the session Prof. Poonam Kundan, Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences delivered a lecture on the theme “Tackling Plastic Pollution” on this auspicious day. She explained lucidly the features of consumer rights, their types and how to protect the environment from plastic pollution. She stated that the consumers should be made aware regarding plastic disposal and suggested the means to reuse and recycle the plastic which can in lieu trample the environment. The lecture was followed by presentation from the students and Faculty. A pledge was also taken by the students and faculty not to cause any harm to the environment in their lifetime and use 7Rs (Replace, Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Repair) to triumph over plastic waste which is the need of an hour. The faculty members instrumental in organizing the seminar were Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Dr. Shittal Sharma, Prof. Anil Bhagat, Prof. Sunil Kumar Mangoch, Dr. Ruchi, Prof. Sonia, Prof. Renuka Kundal and Dr. Gunjeet Mahiwal
