Jammu, Mar 15: As infighting in the Jammu unit of the party has been intensified during the last couple of months, Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday tried to strike a balance between two warring factions by nominating office bearers. While as former MLC Surinder Choudhary was appointed as member of Political Affairs Committee (PAC) and general secretary of the party, leaders of another faction namely Amreek Singh Reen and Rajinder Singh Manhas were nominated as state general secretary and state secretary respectively. Notable infighting in the Jammu unit of PDP has been intensified after Surinder Choudhary removed some office bearers on January 8 and appointed new office bearers of his choice. The sacked office bearers have been associated with the party since its formation On the very next day of these appointments, PDP leaders raised a banner of revolt against Surinder Choudhary for removing senior leaders and they shouted slogans against Choudhary. They also wrote a letter to party president Mehbooba Mufti against free hand to Surinder Choudhary to humiliate senior leaders. Rajinder Manhas was also among those leaders who were removed by Surinder Choudhary. During her visit to Jammu in the month of January, Mehbooba Mufti had assured both the warring factions to address their grievances. Meanwhile Mehbooba revamped the party”s organisational structure and named new office bearers as well as members of the political affairs committee (PAC). She nominated senior leader Abdul Rehman Veeri as the party vice president whereas G N Lone Hanjura, Surinder Choudhary, Amreek Singh Reen and Arshid Malik have been nominated as the party general secretaries, a PDP spokesman said. Mehbooba also constituted a 14-member political affairs committee (PAC) of the party. The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister herself heads the new PAC, which also has Veeri, Hanjura, Muhammad Sartaj Madni, Mehboob Beg, Naeem Akhtar, Surinder Choudhary, Yashpal Sharma, Master Tassaduq Hussain, Sofi Abdul Gaffar, Nizam ud Din Bhat, Firdous Ahmad Tak, Muhammad Khursheed Alam and Advocate Muhammad Yusuf Bhat as members. |
