The protesting students said since the partition of Ladakh into two district including Leh and Kargil, Zanskar Sub-Division has been attached with the Kargil district and has been deprived of basic facilities. In order to address the backwardness of the region, the people of Zanskar have been demanding separate district status for the Sub-Division, the students claimed. They demanded District Status for Zanskar Sub- Division since it is one of the oldest Tehsil in Ladakh UT. “During the parliamentary election in the year 2019, the people of Zanskar have voted for the BJP with the hope that Zansker would be upgraded to district. “Is very unfortunate that after his victory, no party member has visited Zanskar till day,” they said. The protesting students said that the area also has poor telecommunication facility. “In the age of digitization, Zanskar faces the problem of no digital connectivity.” The students also said that the area has the worst road connectivity and during the winter, people have no option but to travel through the dangerous Chadder trek since several people lost their lives while traveling through Chadder Road.
