Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 21: Though the Director School Education Jammu (DSEJ) had recently issued clear cut directions to the private schools directing them not to charge annual charges/admission fee but private schools are openly flouting the directions, forcing the parents to pay huge money in the form of various charges.
Few days back the DSE Jammu Dr. Ravi Shankar Sharma had issued an order which reads, “In view of closure of schools due to spike in Covid-19 cases, the demand of annual charges/admission fee etc is no justified and is in contravention to the instruction of the Administrative Department on the subject. The instructions issued by department vide circular number 01-Edu of 2020 dated 14/5/2020 had allowed the private schools to charge only tuition fee on a monthly basis and prohibited them from charging any fee from the students”.
Despite the fact that the order issued by the Department in the month of May 2020 has been under effect since then but Private Schools have not obeyed the order by using different means.
One such private school, which had directed the parents to pay fee to the tune of Rs 8000 came into being recently. Though in the nomenclature the School is named as a Public School and is part of a chain of Schools across India. For the class of UKG, the School has charged Rs. 8,000 which is claimed as Registration charges. “On the receipt issued by the School, there are three types of charges such as Registration Charges, Annual Charges and Other charges. To evade the queries from DSEJ, the School management has introduced Registration Charges and has taken charges from all the students enrolled in their institution”, sources said, adding that the School is part of a long chain of School from New Delhi and is located near Sainik Colony.
The parents informed Early Times that as per the order issued by DSEJ, the Schools were prohibited from charging any fee from the students, except tuition fee that too on monthly basis. “But these Schools have not been obeying the order of DSEJ and the order seemed to be merely for media consumption”, the parents said, adding that apart from these types of charges, there was no uniformity of the tuition fee, charged by the schools.
“In case of online mode of education, the school management has only been sending home-work to children of primary classes through social networking sites such as Whatsapp. The parents have to assist the children to complete the home work, which is to be checked by the schools only once in a week. How a School can charge Rs. 1500 for merely sending homework to the small kids”, a parent said, adding that the DSEJ, should also fix the tuition fee, being charged by the schools.
