BJP president defends Babus responsible for delay in setting oxygen plants in Jammu | ‘Speaking about shortage of oxygen is a political statement’ | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 8: It sounds incredible but true! President of J&K unit of BJP staunchly defended officers who are responsible for the prevailing worst ever oxygen crisis in Jammu. Instead of demanding action against those Babus, who are responsible for missing the deadline of setting oxygen plants in Jammu province, Ravinder Raina defended this ‘inordinate delay’. Replying to the query of a media person after getting first dose of immunization, Raina said that establishing oxygen plants in Jammu were delayed due to some technical issue relating to bids. “Tenders were floated eight months back but due to some technicalities in bids the same was delayed”, Raina said. When the reporter repeatedly asked him whether it is a failure of the administration, Raina replied, “I don’t want to give any ‘political statement’ at this crucial time when the nation is fighting Coronavirus”. However, when reporters insisted that action should be taken against officers responsible for this momentous blunder, Raina said Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has taken cognizance of the issue. Statement of Ravinder Raina against officers who were responsible for this blunder, has raised many eyebrows because three days back a group of BJP leaders had lambasted the administration for not meeting the deadline in establishing oxygen plants. Sources in the BJP said that some blue-eyed officers of party top brass were also responsible for this delay so directions have been given to all leaders not to speak on this issue. As reported earlier by this newspaper on October 10, 2020, when Jammu’s premier health institute-Government Medical College (GMC), was reeling under the acute scarcity of life-saving Oxygen during the first wave of Coronavirus, Atal Dulloo, Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education had announced that tenders worth Rs 223 crores have already been floated to set-up oxygen plants in 37 hospitals across J&K. He rather claimed that bids have been received and works would be allotted within a week’s time. In the month of October 2020, it was announced that all these 37 oxygen plants would be made functional within a maximum time of four months but these plants have missed the deadline. |
