Pregnant ladies not tested for COVID-19, alleges Dy MS MCCH Anantnag | | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report
Anantnag, May 31: The head of Anantnag Maternity and Child Care Hospital claims that the pregnant ladies weren’t being tested for corona virus as per the laid down procedure in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. “As per COVID-19 protocol every pregnant lady should be tested after 34 weeks of pregnancy in order to know her COVID status and this is to be done by the staff in periphery, but majority of pregnant ladies who report or are referred to M&CCH Anantnag are without any COVID test,” claims Deputy Medical Superintend M&CCH Anantnag Dr S.M Indrabi. Dr Indrabi has written a detailed letter to Deputy Commissioner Anantnag and Director Health Services Kashmir and sought their intervention for bringing down referral rate. Early Times has accessed a copy of this official communication. “COVID test is supposed to be done by the staff in periphery but they don’t perform COVID test of majority of pregnant ladies,” Dr Indrabi alleges. He says that not testing pregnant ladies at appropriate time and as per the SOP could be one of the reason for increasing number of COVID-19 cases as pregnant ladies infected by this virus turn major source of infection for her family and community.” In this communication [MCCH/458-62] Dr Indrabi has also complained of unnecessary referrals of pregnant women to their ‘already overburdened’ facility and lamented that the staff at peripheral institutions like SDHs and PHCs come late to duties and leave early. “They even refer normal patients to our facility,” the letter reads. It further informs the DC that the hospital has conducted 3296 C-Sections in the year 2020-21 and 90 percent of them have been uncomplicated surgeries. “Besides, 2551 normal deliveries have been conducted in the same time frame, 231 only in the month of April,” the letter reads. The MS has requested the DC to direct the district health authorities to monitor and supervise the working of these peripheral hospitals. The letter has been copied to Director Health and Principal of Government Medical College Anantnag, along with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the district.
