NC seeks strengthening of rural hospitals to meet COVID challenge
5/31/2021 11:53:17 PM

Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 31: Former MLC and Provincial Secretary National Conference Sheikh Bashir Ahmed today expressed grave concern over the recent surge in the corona cases and demanded upgradation of the rural health infrastructure to cope up with the challenge.
“In rural and semi-urban areas, health facilities are suffering from the staff deficiency, logistics and medicines, as a result of which the ailing people are constrained to move to Jammu, which is already grappling with the huge number of COVID patients”, Sheikh Bashir said in a statement issued from Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan this afternoon.
Sheikh Bashir sought strengthening of the staff and logistical support in major health institutions in the districts and sub-districts to meet the needs of the peripheral areas. For this purpose, specialized doctors are needed to be posted and diagnostic facilities increased in a big way in view of the current pandemic. He also sought an increase in the bedding strength of each facility with adequate provision of oxygen supply.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed also urged the administration to ramp up the testing process and make available necessary kits to asymptomatic patients for their treatment during the home quarantine. Due to unavailability of these vital facilities, the people are constrained to move to Jammu where the hospitals are already overburdened with case loads.
“Rurual health infrastructure craves for priority attention of the administration in view of the virus spreading in far off areas with alarming pace”, Sheikh Bashir said, hoping the respective district administrations would address to the deficiencies in the hospitals in a time bound manner. He said the plight of the patients and their attendants in the various Jammu hospitals is quite pitiable. This is needed to be looked into for appropriate and urgent medical interventions, he added.
