Caution holds the key

As the unlock process has commenced in Jammu and Kashmir, people need to be more cautious and careful. The COVID-19 appropriate behavior is mandatory for some sort of normalcy to return, situation is still grim and there is no chance for complacency.
The government has ordered opening of markets in a phased manner and stress is being laid on ensuring that SOPs are not violated. Now, people have to respond to the emerging situation.
The second wave of COVID-19 has taught us many things. The biggest lesson which we have learnt is that there is no chance of complacency and guard cannot be lowered. People have to ensure that they don’t assemble at one place in large numbers, they need to wear masks and respect the social distancing norms. All of us have to realize that the threat of COVID-19 is far from over and the experts have predicted its resurgence. If we don’t take precautions, the third wave could be more severe. If businessmen don’t want the lockdown to return they will have to ensure that their establishments don’t remain overcrowded and they attend to the customers one by one. The virus is contagious and it spreads like wildfire. Too many people at one place provides breeding ground to the virus.
Experts and medicos are claiming that the second wave is fizzling out but they have cautioned again and again that the pandemic is far from over. After the first wave of the COVID-19 had subsided most of us had started believing that the pestilence is over and it won’t come back. But the virus raising its ugly head again has proven it beyond doubt that it can get mutated and hit us hard. Some experts were of the opinion that the lockdown should have been extended for 15 more days but the economy has taken a severe hit and everything cannot remain closed forever. Weaker sections of the society have been the worst sufferers. Opening markets and businesses in a phased manner would help in reviving the economy to some extent.
The crux is that the COVID-19 is not over yet, hospitals are still full and nearly 2000 cases are reported daily and people are dying. Precaution and getting vaccinated are the keys to keep the virus at bay. If we don’t realize the importance of SOPs and the vaccines, lockdowns and restrictions can become new norms of lives and our miseries will increase. The government announcing the unlock process has increased our responsibilities and we have to act more cautiously now.
