Jammu, Jun 2: NSS UNIT 1 of GGM Science College Cluster University Jammu held an extension lecture on Tobacco awareness here today. In connection with the world No Tobacco Day observance, NSS Unit under the supervision of Dr.Narinder Kumar PO and guidance of worthy principle Dr. Ravender Tickoo organised an extension lect on the theme Commit to Quit. On this occasion Dr.Ashaq Malik from department of Botany PG College Rajouri (former director of research institute of technology. Eritrea) was resource person. In his lecture, he explained the history,consumption, composition of tobacco products , diseases caused and socio-economical and environmental consequences of tobacco. He underlined that the cigarette smokers are at higher risk to covid related complications and million of the people already committed to quit the cigeratte smoking. The youth and students especially NSS volunteers can play key role to spread awareness among masses to quit smoking and use of tobacco products, he said. It is good sign that there is 6% reduction in tobacco consumption from 34.6% to 28.6% in 2016-17 in India as per ministry of health, yet we need more comphensive efforts to reduce tobacco use by raising greater awareness, he added. |
