Youth should shun violation to usher in new era of development in J&K: Army chief
6/3/2021 11:18:37 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, June 3: Asserting that the situation has witnessed major improvement even as peace and tranquility is prevailing at the Line of Control (LoC) and hinterland in Kashmir valley, Army Chief General M M Naravane on Thursday appealed local youth to shun the path of violence to hasten process of ushering the new era of development and prosperity in the Union Territory.
?After such a long time, we have reached a situation where peace and tranquility prevails?. Where people are able and in a condition to pursue their dreams and aspirations.
My message not only to youth but everyone whole be that it is only if we have peace can we have development and it is only if we have development can we prosper together.
Therefore they should shun the path of violence, it doesn’t get you anywhere,? General Naravane, who is on a two-day visit to Kashmir, told reporters during a press briefing here on Thursday.
The Army chief said that the people need to see, how the world has moved on and how India has moved on. ?
Therefore embrace the future? In the whole world, future lies in shunning the violence and if you (youth in Kashmir) do that it will only hasten the process of ushering the new era of development and prosperity in J&K,? he said.
Talking about the security situation in the valley, the General said that ‘he is glad to say that all the parameters that we judge normalcy by have seen great improvement’.
?In have been briefed by the commanders on the ground, both on the Line of Control (LoC) and hinterland? and I’m glad to say that all the parameters that we judge normalcy by have seen great improvement. There have been very few militant incidents, there has been hardy any case of stone pelting, hardly any of IEDs in the recent past. So all these are indicators of return of sense of normalcy? and these are also the indicators that the people also want the same. And that is I think a very good thing that is happening,? he said. He said in this context of the return to normalcy, the Army from its side is prepared and has taken steps for the smooth conduct of Amarnath yatra. ?Of course the decision to conduct the yatra lies with the civil administration, but we are ready for our side,? he said. ?The question of peace in J&K, for that matter in whole of India, is a governmental approach. It involves the political sphere, it involves local government and administration, it involves the security forces of which Army also forms part of? it is not that only the Army is doing it? it is the whole of the nation which comes together and work to bring peace and tranquility,? he added.
Gen Naravane said in this overall gambit, the role of the Army is to bring down the level of the violence to an extent where the civil administration and the local security forces can then play the role in the development of the region and of J&K. ?
The ultimate aim is to bring down the level of violence so that peace and development can take place,? he added.
