Panchari Moungri farmers suffer crop losses due to hail storm | | | Ashwani Sharma Early Times Report
Udhampur, June 3: Almost the entire crop in Panchari Moungri area has been damaged due to hailstorm in the locality leaving the poor farmers at the mercy of God. Sources informed that 50 per cent of damaged crops were those of fruits while the remaining was that of vegetables and cereals. Krishan Singh suffered losses as his walnut trees had fruit which fell due to the hail storm. He said that the government should immediately help the affected farmers. Other local informed that hail stones fell from the sky damaging the crops in the fields. They said that fruits such as apples, apricot, pears, peach, plum and walnuts, citrus fruits etc along with wheat, maize crops were damaged due to wind storm and hail storm in Panchari. The farmers demand compensation from the government for the losses. Sources informed that officials from the Horticulture and Agriculture departments are visiting the fields to access the quantum of losses suffered by the farmers. Meanwhile DDC Panchari member Jasvir Singh said that mater in his knowledge and that he will inform the concerned authorities to note the loss of farmers and submit the factual report to higher ups and demands compensations to them. |
