The Contest between AYUSH and Allopathic
Shouldn’t Forget Public Health

It is the cheap business mindset of some vested interests that have raised un-required controversy between systems of medicines. It’s just a way to distract people from the real issues. Media houses got something else to cover apart from overwhelmed hospitals lacking facilities to save the irreparable loss of public lives. The millions affected by COVID-19 are both curative and preventive. I am a firm believer that Medicines are bad for health and there is no cure for any disease. With every increase in doctors, hospitals and medical discoveries the number of sick people is rising. Look at doctors when they fall sick. They cannot cure themselves. We can keep on discussing, debating, and arguing which system is better for a health cure but the bottom line is ‘Allopath’ are doing the job for India today. What one can do, others can never. We can try any system and switch over as the need be. I firmly believe that there should not be a rat race. If a system claims to cure a human it is the happiest thing to happen. My own consideration is that both Ayurveda & Allopathic are two medical sciences in India. Ayurveda is considered to be an Up-Veda of Atharva-Veda. The 4 Veda is also considered to be the collection of cumulative knowledge acquired by thousands of ‘Saints’ over many years. India has a rich heritage of medical wisdom derived from the Vedas that prevailed as Ayurveda. Ayurvedic medicine is one of the world’s oldest whole-body healing systems. It was developed more than 3,000 years ago in India. It’s based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Ayurveda believe in combination of five elements i.e. space, air, fire, water, and earth within the human body that leads to the formation of three life forces or energies, called ‘Doshas’ such as: Vata Dosha (space and air) Pitta Dosha (fire and water) Kapha Dosha (water and earth). Each of the Doshas controls different body functions and it is observed that the number of health issues we develop and our chances of getting sick are directly linked with the balance of our ‘Doshas’. Ayurveda is based on natural science and so all Ayurvedic remedies are close to nature and Ayurvedic medicines make use of natural herbs, extracts, and plants. It does not have side effects. From chemicals and synthetic things alone.
Hippocrates is considered to be the father of modern Allopathic medicine. He described in a scientific manner, many diseases and their treatment after detailed observation. He lived about 2400 years ago. The word ‘Allopathy’ was coined by Samuel Hahnemann in 1810 which comes from the Greek word “allos” - meaning “opposite” and “pathos” - meaning “to suffer”. Since then, allopathic medicines have developed in all forms and are quite different today than it was in the 1800s. Allopathic drugs are from chemicals and synthetic things alone. In Allopath patients are never considered as a person, but as an assortment of various organs and the treatment does not take flight without the costly Anatomical Pathology. Allopathic treatment is not based on any philosophy, only interference with the physiological and biochemical activities of the body using chemicals.
Allopaths are unique in emergency conditions. So we can say that no system can take over any system. All the systems have their own needs and importance. Remember there is no survival without Allopath and there is no cure without the Single remedy system of Homeopathy. There are situations only Allopathic can help. We need the best of Allopathic, Ayurved and Unani etc from all types of medicines. If we need emergency or surgical treatment, it’s Allopathic that saves life. There are traditional forms of medicine that are not “alternative” but very integral to healthcare. Medical experts further explain that medical science does not run on some set rules rather, it evolves according to the data collected for study and thus any change in the treatments can take place as a sign of progress. Twitter has been rife with polarized debate on efficacy of Allopathy and Ayurveda. Medicos around the country shared their experiences about their long, exhausting and dedicated hours of duty in such times of crisis. While some agreed with the IMA and called Ramdev a ‘quack doctor’, his supporters defended him by promoting ‘swadeshi’ medicines and Ayurveda products. Critics claimed that it is Ramdev’s just another tactic to promote his own products and controversial Covid-19 medicines such as ‘Coronil’. IMA went ahead with a letter to the PM to register a case of ‘Desh Droh’ against Ramdev. The Union Health Minister has only responded that the yoga guru’s words have caused great distress to the fraternity of doctors, especially at the time of the Covid-19 crisis when medicos are fighting day and night against the pandemic and Baba has to withdraw his words. A couple of days ago, while conducting a morning yoga session at the camp, Ramdev had said that “parents who cannot keep their children healthy should be penalized and so should rulers who can’t keep the people of their country disease-free.” In the backdrop of controversy over his comments on the adverse role of allopathic drugs in the treatment of Covid-19, Ramdev said during a yoga session at his Yog Gram centre in Haridwar that he has set a target of converting 1000 allopathic doctors to Ayurveda during a year’s time. Can we take it as over step of Baba to the conceived view of PM to roll out a ‘One Nation, One Health System’ policy by 2030, which would integrate modern and traditional systems of medicine like Allopathy, Homoeopathy and Ayurveda in medical practice, education and research aiming to formulate an Integrative Health System, under which patients would get treatment from any medicinal system, depending on what ails them and their current condition. Implementing an integrative system would mean there will be a need for health professionals trained in such a system. The USA, China and European nations have translated integrative medicine into their health system. Since both the medicines have vast applications and have proven very prominent in the field of medicine, both of the kinds have their advantages and drawbacks. The Contest between AYUSH and Allopathic Shouldn’t Forget Public Health.
