Penalize irresponsible
6/3/2021 11:29:03 PM
New Chief Secretary, Arun Kumar Mehta, while chairing his maiden meeting to review the COVID-19 containment measures in Jammu and Kashmir made it explicitly clear that people who will flaunt the SOPs will be penalized.
Mehta reiterated the ‘zero-tolerance’ policy of the government towards COVID inappropriate behavior and asked the departments to promote awareness among general masses through wider IEC activities including advertisements and radio talk shows. He stressed on the need for timely testing, tracking, treatment and isolation.
The second wave of COVID-19 has broken the back of a common man as it has hit everyone hard. Jammu region witnessed a sharp increase in death rate as well as the number of people getting infected. Since the day pandemic has broken out experts, medicos, officials, everyone is urging people to follow the COVID-19 norms in letter and spirit as the virus is very contagious, but it’s unfortunate that people not acting responsibly has aggravated the situation.
Residents of Jammu and Kashmir should take a cue from the people of other countries, who followed the COVID-19 sops in letter and spirit and today many nations are virus free. These people realized that precaution is better than cure and showed no hesitancy in getting vaccinated. The vaccines are protective shields that would pave the way for developing herd immunity.
The government is trying its best to provide all the facilities to people but the masses should understand that precaution is better than cure. The new Chief Secretary has made it clear that anyone who is found violating the COVID-19 sops will be dealt with sternly. People should realize that by taking precautions they are helping themselves and are not obliging anyone.
The peak of the second COVID-19 wave turned many of us helpless as there was no space in the hospitals even to accommodate the critical patients. This wave taught us many lessons and we should learn from these. We can’t just sit back and think that nothing will happen. The COVID-19 is a deadly virus that gets transmitted from one human being to another without any intimation and multiplies rapidly.
The government has eased the restrictions but that doesn’t mean that pestilence is over. The virus is very much there and it won’t go till a permanent cure is found. People need to bear in mind that lifting of lockdown is no victory. The virus can resurface if we don’t follow the COVID-19 SOPs in letter and spirit.
