Early Times Report
Anantnag, June 5: In a shocking development, the Health Department were spotted using expired RT-PCR kits for conducting COVID-19 tests at Ranibagh testing centre here in south Kashmir. A group of locals informed Early Times that employees and officials posted at Ranibagh testing centre used the expired RT-PCR kits despite their objections. “We raised objections but they didn’t stop and continued to use these expired RTPCR kits,” they alleged. “The RT-PCR kits used for conducting coronavirus tests expired last month,” they said. “The employees informed us that they had received these expired kits from Government Medical College Anantnag. We tried our best to contact senior officials to check whether it was allowed to use expired kits for testing but we failed as almost all the officers didn’t attend our calls,” they added. A senior official said that they will look into the matter and find out why expired kits were used for testing. “I don’t know why they have used these expired kits for conducting COVOD-19 tests,” he added. He said that the testing center is run by the Health Department and they had taken some testing kits from Medical College Anantnag. Chief Medical Officer Anantnag, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad assured that he would look into the matter. “Expired RT-PCR testing kits can’t be used for conducting COVID-19 tests. We haven’t used them,” he said. As per norms, kits can’t be used for testing beyond the expiry date printed on the kit boxes. |
