COVID-19: Grim situation contradicts admin claims | | | Malik Masood
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 5: Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 Jammu and Kashmir UT has been throwing up many surprises on the medical front. The pandemic has consumed many lives across Jammu and Kashmir. Non-availability of the paraphernalia and the infrastructure to meet the exigencies have added to the miseries of patients, who have also suffered in absence of proper medicare. However, in the ensuing pandemic, the administration kept on making tall claims about it meeting all the exigencies but on the ground, the situation has remained grim. Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) that came forward to help the ailing people of Jammu in view of the Government Medical College as well as other tertiary hospitals failing to cater to the surging number of patients too has its share of problems. The DRDO hospital, allegedly also failed in a unique case. As soon as the facility was thrown open for people, seven COVID positive patients were admitted at the DRDO hospital , out of which one among them was again referred back to Government Medical College as the DRDO hospital had no particular equipment installed for the patient with a unique sickness. Principal Government Medical College Shashi Sudan avoided repeated calls from this newspaper, and A D Manhas, Superintendent GMC feigned ignorance over the issue saying it was ‘none of his concern’. However, Principal Secretary Health Atal Dulloo , who responded, first denied any such instance having occurred, later he went on to admit that DRDO hospital has no dialysis unit. “We had to shift the patient back to GMC since the dialysis unit does not exist in the hospital, but it will be installed soon,” said the Principal Secretary. |
