GCW Udhampur organizes symposium on "Role of Chemistry in Covid-19 mitigation | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, June 7: The Chemistry Department of Govt College for Women, Udhampur organized an intra-college symposium on "Role of Chemistry in Covid-19 Mitigation" in connection with "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav-2021" to commemorate the 75th anniversary of independence. The event was formally inaugurated by the chief guest, principal, Prof Minu Mahajan. About 60 participants from all the even semesters II/IV/VI participated in the event. Participants expressed their views that chemistry is playing a major role in fighting the coronavirus and how Chemists all over the world contribute to the fight against COVID-19. For example, hand sanitizers and drugs are all based on chemistry. Dr Amit Kumar, Prof Sanjeev Upadhyay and Dr Junaid Ali adjudged the event. Aqueela Akhter (Sem-VI) and Neena Devi (Sem-IV) bagged first position, whereas Sonali Devi (Sem-IV), Rakshanda and Aarti Devi from Sem-II secured second position. Neha Rani and Tanisha Thakur Sem-VI & Sem-II clinched 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively. Earlier, Prof Kewal Kumar, HOD Chemistry introduced the audience about the programme and welcomed the guests, whereas Prof Suneel Singh Barheyan conducted the proceedings of the programme through virtual platform and presented vote of thanks also. The whole event was technically supported by Dr Kewal Kumar of Botany Department.
