Ration at doorstep
6/7/2021 9:42:34 PM
Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal
has raised a valid point by stating that if
pizzas, burgers, clothes and other items can be delivered at the doorsteps, then why can't ration be sent to the homes of people amidst pandemic.
The Delhi Government had announced that the ration will be delivered at the footsteps of people but the "ration mafia," according to Kejriwal, got the order cancelled. In Jammu and Kashmir there are no "ration mafias." The UT administration should take a cue from the Kejriwal government and help the people by providing them ration at their homes as the threat of COVID-19 is still not over. The Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) recently claimed that it distributed a massive 103209 MTs of food grains among the beneficiaries across all the 20 districts of Jammu & Kashmir. The FCS&CA by distributing the food grains among the needy people has done a good job. Officials deserve appreciation for it. But they can move a step ahead by reaching out to the needy people, who due to one or other reason are unable to leave their homes. Apparently there are no "ration mafias" active in J&K and a few unscrupulous elements, who indulge in misappropriation of ration, meant for poor people and then sell it in the open market need to be identified and isolated. At present there are many private companies in J&K that reach to the doorsteps of the people with goods and commodities. If these private companies can develop a network, why can't the government departments do the same?
The FCS&CA Department is a part of essential services and it needs to lead from the front to reach out to the people. Experts have warned that there is a possibility of a third wave of COVID-19 breaking out and people have to take precautions till the pestilence is defeated. To avoid crowds at ration depots the FCS&CA should give a thought to home delivery option. It will help people, who have been pushed to wall by the pestilence. J&K administration has taken number of steps to help the people in distress and has tried its best to ensure that no one gets ignored. Getting ration delivered at the doorstep could prove to be yet another great initiative and helmsmen need to give it a thought.
