Inter-college activities to commemorate “World Environment Day 2021” held

Jammu, June 7: Eco -Club of Government Degree College Sidhra under the patronage of principal, Monika Sharma organised online inter-college activities to commemorate “World Environment Day 2021” under the banner of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
The theme of Environment Day 2021 is “Ecosystem Restoration”. Eco Club organised Photography competition on the theme “hues of nature”, essay writing competition on the theme “environmentally changing world, what should we change” and poster making on the theme “ecosystem restoration”.
The main aim behind celebrating this day is to raise awareness about critical issues that the Earth is facing and focusing on natural processes, emerging green technologies and innovative thinking that can restore the world’s ecosystem. Number of students from various colleges across the UT of J&K participated in the event.
The participants were judged by Prof. Shashi Prabha, Associate Professor, Department of English and Dr. Mehmood Ahmed, Head Department of Urdu of the College. In Essay writing competition First position was secured by Neharika Gupta of B.Com Sem II, GCW Parade while Divya Rani of B.Sc Sem IV, GDC Reasi was adjudged at second position and the third position was shared by Neha Sharma of B.Com Sem II, GDC Samba and Diksha Thakur of Sem IV GDC Majalta.
In Poster making Neha Katal of B.A Sem II, GDC Samba bagged first position, Sumriti of M.A Economics, Sem I, DDE, University of Jammu secured second position while the third position was shared by Shuvam Singh of B.Com Sem II ,GDC Sidhra and Kanchan Devi of B.A Sem IV, GDC Ramkote.
In the Photography competition Asif Rashid, B.A Sem II of Abdul Ahad Azad Memorial Degree College Bemina, Srinagar was adjudged first, While Sakshi Charak of B.Ed Sem I, SMVD College of Education and Sahil Wassan, B.Sc Sem VI, GGM Science College were adjudged second and the third slot was shared by Vishal Chandan of B.Sc Sem IV, GDC Reasi and Rashid Rasheed of B.A Sem II of Amar Singh College Srinagar.
Principal, Monika Sharma congratulated the meritorious students as well as the student participants for their participation in the event with full enthusiasm. The event was organized by Dr. Anshu Gupta, Convener, ECO Club and Head, Department of Environmental Sciences of the college and coordinated by Prof. Deepa Kak, Head Department of Education and Member of ECO Club of the college.
