Early Times Report

Jammu, June 7: World Food Safety Day (WFSD) celebrated on 7th June aims to draw attention and inspire action to help prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks, contributing to food security, human health, economic prosperity, agriculture, market access, tourism and sustainable development.
This year’s theme, “Safe food today for a healthy tomorrow” stresses that production and consumption of safe food has immediate and long term benefits for people, the planet and the economy. Recognizing the systematic connections between the health of people, animals, plants, the environment and the economy will help us meet the need of the future generations. Food Safety is a shared responsibility between governments, producers and consumers and everyone has a role to play from farm to table to ensure the food we consume is safe and healthy.
With this aim, NSS Unit (Khidmat) of GDC Vijaypur kicked-off Food Safety campaign using Quotes, Messages, Slogans, Whatsapp and Facebook status share to make people aware of food safety issues, demonstrate how to prevent illnesses, encourage collaborations across sectors thereby promoting solutions as together only we can make food safe for everyone during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
Dr. Sangeeta Sudan, principal of the college exhorted that food safety is everyone’s business as it is more important now than ever that we treat ourselves with care by only consuming healthy products that can build our immunity so that we can live healthy and happy lives and good hygiene practices in food and agriculture sectors would help to reduce the emergence and spread of food borne diseases, viruses, parasites or chemical substances causes more than 200 diseases.
Moreover, “reducing food waste is good for the planet as it helps slow down global warming as by using up every edible bit of food one can do one’s bit to look after the environment”, she said. The whole event was co-ordinated by Dr. Sunil Kumar Mangoch ( NSS Programme Officer).
