DSS demands inquiry into sinking of newly repaired part of circular road | Reiterates demand for strengthening of slopes below Mubarak Mandi | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 11: The Dogra Sadar Sabha, J&K has demanded inquiry into sinking of newly repaired part of circular road in Durbargarh locality. This was stated by Gulchain Singh Charak, former minister and president, Dogra Sadar Sabha, today. He said that as reported by the local residents, the retaining wall of the road which collapsed in normal weather had been recently repaired at a huge cost. Its collapse even before the onset of the monsoon raised serious questions about the quality of work, which jeopardized the life and property of the people using the circular road. He urged the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha to have the matter looked into in depth regarding the quality of work and to fix responsibility for the lapses. He further pointed out that despite bringing the matter to the notice of the UT administration repeatedly, over quite some time, the strengthening of the slopes in the vicinity, supporting the palaces towards the Tawi side of the Mubarak Mandi heritage complex has also not been taken up so far. He reiterated the demand made on several occasions earlier that, now with the monsoon being just around the corner, the strengthening work be considered on priority, to avoid damage/collapse of the precious heritage of the Dogras. Charak further pointed out that unauthorized construction along the roadside also needs to be checked effectively, as unplanned and indiscriminate construction on the slopes, on both sides of the road, was also fraught with the danger of destabilizing the hillside which could lead to some major catastrophe especially during the monsoon season.
