Prolonged power cuts irk Talab Tillo residents
6/12/2021 12:56:45 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 11: Criticising the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) for not providing regular power supply in hot summer season, the residents of Ward No 31 of Talab Tillo have been reeling under prolonged power cuts.
They accused the JPDCL for making only excuses instead of improving power infrastructure particularly to meet challenges in the summer season.
“Most of the area is metered yet we are facing power cuts. People are sweltering on hot summer days. There is no curtailment timings and we have to witness power cuts for hours together,” said Yashpal Gupta, resident of Ward No 31.
“We are already facing huge difficulties due to COVID pandemic and now unscheduled and prolonged power cuts have added to the woes of people. Being a student I cannot focus on my studies due to power cuts in these hot days when temperature is rising at its peak. Due to low power voltage, ACs are not working properly and it has become difficult for us to complete our assignments. I request the Government as well as PDD to improve the power scenario,” said Appoorva Gupta, a student.
Ramdev Sharma said that although we are getting curtailed electricity but to low voltage there is huge fluctuation which causes damage to electrical equipment. Children are facing a tough time due to irregular power cuts. Transformers should be replaced with high capacity, so that it might not get damaged, he said further adding that transformers get damaged every fourth day due to overloading, which should be looked into by the department.
Vijay Tandon, another resident, said that they can neither take rest in day time nor during night hours. “Senior citizens had to face more difficulties, who had to take medicines,” he said. JPDCL preaches to people to use electricity judiciously but never thinks about its functioning, ill preparedness, he added.
