Mahila Cong holds protest against fuel price hike
6/11/2021 11:52:58 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 11: As part of nationwide campaign against unprecedented hike in petroleum prices, Pradesh Mahila Congress on Friday held symbolic protest in front of petrol pumps at Jammu, Kathua, Samba & etc.
Mahila Congress activists demanded complete roll back of the fuel price hike at this crucial time when income of most of the people has been reduced due to Corona lockdown. Mahila Congress organized protest in front of petrol pump in compliance with COVID-19 protocols.
Activists of Mahila Congress activists under the leadership of Pradesh Mahila Congress president and former MLA Indu Pawar reached petrol pump at Jammu and shouted slogans against NDA government for putting unnecessary burden on people amid pandemics.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Pawar regretted that at a crucial time when common masses are struggling to earn their livelihood due to Corona lockdown, BJP led NDA Government has put additional burden on the people by slapping additional tax on petroleum products. “The government should stop imposing excise duty on petrol and diesel. It should come under the purview of Goods and Services Tax. We demand a complete rollback of fuel price hike,” she demanded.
Mahila Congress president pointed out that during Congress led UPA regime from 2004 to 2014, the tax on petrol and diesel stood at Rs 9.20 but during present BJP led NDA regime it is Rs 32.
She said that due to wrong policies and hefty taxes, petrol prices in many parts of the country have crossed Rs 100 per litre these days, while diesel prices are on the verge of reaching Rs 100 per litre. “Everyone knows about the cascading effect of inflation of petrol and diesel on all kinds of essential commodities like ration” she said.
“The wrong priorities and anti-people policies of the BJP government can also be gauged from the fact that in the last 13 months of the Corona epidemic, the prices of petrol and diesel have been increased by an unprecedented Rs 25.97 and Rs 24.18, respectively”, she said. In just last 5 months alone, the prices of petrol and diesel have been increased by 44 times. Fuel prices have crossed the hundred rupees mark in several states.
