Successive govts guilty of unprecedented hike in fuel prices: Kavinder
6/11/2021 11:53:21 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, June 11: Hitting hard against Congress Party for making hue and cry over the hike in petrol and diesel prices, senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta said that the real culprit behind unprecedented hike in fuel prices is the oldest party of the country as it never paid heed in making India self-reliant as far as its fuel needs are concerned.
In a statement issued here to media persons, the BJP stalwart said that where the Congress party was hiding was during its rule when the petroleum products crossed all the limits and were touching skies. He said that drama being staged by the Congress today is nothing but a failed attempt to create a political space for the party which is next to impossible as people are educated on the issue and know very well that the middle-class would not have been burdened of rising fuel prices if the previous governments had focused on reducing India's energy import dependence.
Citing PM Modi’s stand over the issue, Kavinder said that since India imports the majority of its oil needs, retail rates are benchmarked to international prices, which have spiraled in recent weeks. He said that the government is working on relying on non-conventional fuels like ethanol to soon get rid of dependency on petroleum products. He said that the BJP government is exploring all other options to become independent of petroleum product dependency thus relieving the middle class from the rising prices of fuel which has currently shaken the budget of the middle class kitchen.
He said that the focus now is on using renewable sources of energy, which will by 2030 form 40 per cent of energy generated in the country.
“The Congress is ailing with a disease called ‘opposition for the sake of opposition’ and this is creating fuss in the country which can be confronted by educating people on the issue”, he said, adding that people should not fall prey to such mechanizations of Congress Party and should keep faith in BJP.
