BGSBU needs reforms
6/12/2021 12:35:25 AM
Baba Ghulam Shah Bhadshah University (BGSBU) at Rajouri has remained in news for one or other reason for the past many years.
The latest from the varsity is that admission fee has been slashed by 50% as the administration has not been able to get the admissions. In fact students seem least interested in seeking the admission in the university.
The varsity offers range of undergraduate and post graduate courses but it has remained caught in or other controversy every now and then.
Had the university been managed properly students would have come there from every nook and corner of the country, but the mismanagement has led to students staying away from the varsity.
The questions that are being raised are why university is struggling to fill the seats even in its engineering college? Why the students are not coming forward to seek admission in post graduate courses? Why the university is finding it hard to run the departments.
The incumbent Vice-Chancellor recently took over the reins of the university and is trying to streamline the system which his predecessors had ostensibly turned upside down.
After J&K’s transition into a union territory BGSBU along with other varsities were put under the direct control of the Lieutenant Governor. The LG led government needs to take a note of the mess that BGSBU is in.
The varsity has extended admission date for eight months and has been trying to fill in the empty seats in various courses. It’s serious issue and needs to be looked into.
Reducing the admission fee by 50% is not a very good idea as it would make it difficult for the varsity administration to meet the expenses to run the system. The BGSBU needs to set its system right by not allowing its employees to play politics with each other. It needs to focus on imparting quality education to the students. Strengthening academics holds the key. The new Vice-Chancellor will have to take tough decisions to bring university back on track. He will have to act against the people who indulge in lobbyism and are ruining the university for their vested interests.
Imparting higher education is not only about admitting students and filling up the institutions. It’s about providing quality education to the students and turning them into responsible citizens, who can serve the nation. The BGSBU administration needs to understand it and put its act together. If it fails to do so the varsity could decay further and crumble.
