Udhampur, June 11: Today Govt College for Women, Udhampur celebrated World Environmental Day online as well as offline to commemorate Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav under the auspices of its two NCC Units, 2 J&K and 1 J&K NCC Girls Bn. The week long online inter college event ‘Green Carnival” with profuse competitions like nature photography, poetry writing, plant a tree, create from waste, cook green, videography, while offline celebration included plantation of Araucaria Heterophylia by Dr. S. Sapru, former principal GCW Udhampur and Basanti Sapru, at the college campus on 4th June and the celebration was culminated with the planatation of 200 saplings of Amla, Neem, Arjun and Jamun, which were planted to the college by the Commandant Mohd Khalid Khan 137 CRPF Bn, Udhampur. The Principal, Prof. Minu Mahajan said, ‘The Day raises awareness about Environment issues and it is a global platform for public out reach with participation from from all over the world’. She further appreciated the efforts of the organizing secretary, Lt. (Dr.) Kamal Deep Kaur, ANO, the co-ordinator, Prof. Shallu Jasrotia, and the NCC Cadets of the college for making this carnival a success. The carnival amassed entries from the students of various colleges from the UT of J&K and Ladakh. The winners will be awarded the pronounced cash prizes subsequently. The prominent among the others present on the occasion were teaching and other non-teaching staff of the college. |
