Anantnag, June 14: In a shocking incident, three youth belonging to same family fell in a well in the Khiram village of this South Kashmir district. According to reports, the trio was digging a well manually in their orchard when they slipped into it. “All of them were evacuated immediately by villagers and shifted to Primary Health Center Khiram however one among them was declared brought dead,” Nisar Ahmad Mir DDC Dachnipora told Early Times over Phone. The youth who succumbed to injuries was identified as Sabzar Ahmad Lone s/o Abdul Rehman Lone, a resident of Khiram. His brother Shahid Ahmad Lone, they said, has been shifted to SKIMS in a critical condition while as another injured Muzaffer Ahmad Lone is being treated at Government Medical College Anantnag. Villagers said that the area has facing shortage of drinking water and especially irrigation facilities. “The family decided to dig a well in their orchard to irrigate the land however it consumed an innocent life,” they said. The villagers have been demanding better facilities since last many years however the administration isn't giving heed to grievances. Out of four lift Irrigation Schemes, the Mechanical Irrigation Division Awantipora has made any scheme completely operational while as others were facing technical faults and no efforts were being taken to rectify those faults, alleged residents. The area is also facing drinking water shortage as the department has failed to make community tube wells constructed by the department a few years ago operational.
