Kashmir gets 5 more German oxygen plants, Jammu gets 4 | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 14: Even as Jammu witnessed highest mortality due to Covid19, in a recent move, the government has given more number of oxygen generation plants imported from Germany to Kashmir as compared to the winter capital region, while the officials ruled out any such discrimination. Ironically this has happened even though Jammu recently witnessed highest mortality due to Covid19 as compared to any other district of the Union Territory. Official documents accessed by the Early Times reveal that on June 7, Government received a fresh consignment of as many as nine Medical Oxygen Generation Plants at the Srinagar Airport. “The state-of-the-art Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) Oxygen Generation plants, manufactured in Europe, were airlifted from Frankfurt, Germany by Indian Air Force C-17 cargo plane on 5th June and delivered at Srinagar Airport today morning. Pertinently, the earlier consignment of 7 plants was also brought in by the Indian Air Force on 17th May,” reads an official document. Till now J&K received, 16 Oxygen Plants from Europe. Of the latest consignment, however, five plants with generation capacity of 4000 LPM will be installed in the hospitals of Kashmir and the remaining 4 with generation capacity of 4400 LPM will be installed in Jammu hospitals. When contacted a senior official ruled at any discrimination. He said capacity wise Jammu has been compensated through the aggregate capacity of the new plants. He said Jammu was given due share in the previous consignment also. Medical health experts, however, said the number of plants do matter as they can be installed at multiple places thus making oxygen available at more places. “In a region as vast as Jammu, the number of plants should have been more here as compared to Kashmir,” he said. At present, J&K has 40 functional Medical Oxygen Generation Plants and the addition of 9 more would further enhance the availability of medical oxygen in hospitals of UT raising it to more than 60000 LPM. |
