6/15/2021 12:09:08 AM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

UDHAMPUR, June 14: Members of Udhampur Journalists Association observed black day and held a silent march today to register protest against the insensitive attitude of the administration towards media persons, who were not allowed them to cover MoS Dr Jitendra Singh’s recent visit to the town.
To register their protest against administration a large number of media persons from print and electronic media holding placards today took out a silent march from Deputy Commissioner’s Office Udhampur which culminated at Gole Market near Fountain Chowk after passing through various markets.
Speaking on the occasion, senior journalist Pardeep Bakshi , Ramesh Gupta and Amit Mahi condemned the insensitive attitude of the district administration in this regard and termed it a tactic to coerce journalists, adding that it was unfortunate on the part of administration for denying media to perform its role smoothly.
They said that media which is fourth pillar of democracy has always helped and worked as bridge between people and administration in highlighting problems of masses and making aware people about achievements and schemes of government but the recent denial of administration to cover Dr Singh’s visit to Devika ghat has widened gap between media and administration.
They said that the media persons will not cover any government function till the administration apologizes to the media fraternity.
“For the first time ever the media persons working in the district were informed through whatsapp messages that they are not allowed to cover Dr Jitendra Singh’s visit to review ongoing works on Devika which is a murder of democracy and curb on media,” journalist Ashwani Sharma said, and added that this tactic will no way help administration and if they want cordial relations with media then it must make an apology for its action.
Others present in protest march were Swapnil Pachiyala, Krishan Khajuria, Deepak Anand , Ravi Singh, Aftab Ahmed, Vikram Parihar, Baljit Singh, Arun Jasrotia, Viney Sharma, Naresh Kundal, Ajay Bandral, Naresh Kumar, Vikas Kataria, Maqbool Shah, Akash Verma, Vikram Panchi, Trilok Singh and others.
