| SKUAST-J organizes frontline demonstration on maize at Uttar Behni | | | EARLY TIMES REPROT
SAMBA, June 16: A frontline demonstration on maize was conducted today in Uttar Vahini block under Farmer FIRST Programme by SKUAST-Jammu.
The programme was organized under the guidance of Prof J.P Sharma, Vice Chancellor. Besides, the Site Implementation Committee meeting of the Farmer First Programme implemented by Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu in a cluster of villages in Samba district was organized to discuss the farming plan for ensuing kharif season 2021. The meeting was presided over by Dr Pardeep Wali, Associate Director Research (Principal Investigator) of the project, following advisory and guidelines issued by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi under COVID-19 pandemic. The meeting was attended by Panchs and Sarpanchs of selected villages under the project. To start with, Dr Pardeep Wali presented the detailed work carried out under the project in the preceding year (2019- 20). He along with farmer partners discussed major achievements, including record maize production and bumper wheat yield. Besides, modules such as nutritional kitchen gardening and popularization of improved breeds under backyard system were also proposed. Farmers highlighted the issue of insect pest attack in vegetables and suggested to conduct campaign for its management. More than 50 farmers participated in the meeting. Several issues regarding farmers under all modules of the project were discussed. Other Sarpanchs raised the issue of non-availability of quality feed for animals and timely vaccination of livestock. It was decided that moong, mash and Sesame FLDs shall be laid in the current year along with demonstrations on area specific mineral mixtures to enhance milk yield. Dr Pawan Kumar Sharma, Scientist (Agril. Economics) Co-PI of the project & Manmohan Singh (SRF) recorded the proceedings and thanked partners for valuable suggestions. |
