Early Times Report

Anantnag, June 16: Days after Additional Deputy Commissioner Anantnag found twenty two (22) doctors absent from their duties, Principal Government Medical College Anantnag on Tuesday alleged that the administration in Anantnag district was behaving ‘Irresponsibly’. Earlier the Deputy Commissioner Anantnag had warned and asked GMC Anantnag authorities to ensure doctors posted at Hospital attend duties.
“District Administration Anantnag is behaving in puerile manner and is acting hastily and irresponsibly when it comes to dealing with my institution,” Principal Government Medical College Anantnag Dr Showket Jeelani wrote in a letter, addressed to Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education Atal Dullo.
In this letter, a copy of this communication lies with Early Times, alleging that the district administration was interfering in his institutional jurisdiction to undermine the credibility of the chair he was holding.
“I want to bring into your notice and register my strong protest for continued interference by the district administration in my institutional jurisdiction and playing in the hands of unscrupulous elements hell bent to malign the image of the institute and the credibility of the chair I am holding,” he wrote.
He alleged that a team sent by Deputy Commissioner Anantnag murdered the service ethics by seeking information directly from heads of departments. “The team didn’t bother to give a courtesy call before rushing to the hospital,” he added.
He called the Anantnag administration ‘childish’ and alleged that it is behaving in a puerile manner and is acting hastily and irresponsibly.
Principal Medical College Anantnag said that institution was in its formative years and was just two years old. “We are in constant endeavor to provide the best possible healthcare facilities to the patients,” he wrote.
As reported earlier, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag has informed the Government that his team led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Ghulam Hassan Sheikh found 22 doctors absent from duties at Government Medical College Anantnag on Monday.
Those doctors who were found absent include four HOD’s (Head of Departments) and Assistant Professors and senior residents. The officials also found the ENT department completely closed during the visit.
In a statement issued to the media, DC Anantnag said that he took immediate cognizance of a few reports regarding unauthorized absence of some doctors from duties at Government Medical College Anantnag. Deputy Commissioner (District Magistrate) Anantnag, Dr. Piyush Singla today directed the Principal of the college to strictly monitor the attendance and roster of the doctors and paramedical staff there. He further asked the Principal to ensure the health staff at the college attend the duties punctually and follow the roster in letter and spirit besides forwarding the attendance to the office of the Deputy Commissioner on a daily basis.
Speaking on the matter, the DC said the doctors should regularly attend the duties adding the punctuality of medical staff becomes even more significant during these testing (Covid) times.
