Jammu, June 16: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) is promoting the organic vegetables cultivation in Reasi distt. of J&K amid COVID-19 pandemic. Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi scientists are technically supporting the farmers for the scientific cultivation of organic vegetables so that chemical free fresh organic vegetables can be produced and nutritional security can be mitigated amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Talwara and adjoining villages such as Kansi Patta and Kans Brahmna of Reasi district of J&K are commercially producing the organic vegetables by following the organic practices. The KVK scientists have provided the necessary technical guidelines on organic vegetables along with Neem Oil, Pheromone Traps, sticky traps, Neem Cake, organic fungicides etc. to the farmers of the area so as to produce the organic vegetables. Besides it, farmers have been trained on organic formulations by utilizing the local resources. Farmers have been guided on vermicomposting technology, Panchgavya preparation, cow urine preparation, beejamrit preparation, fermented butter milk preparation, jeevamrit etc. According to Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal organic farming can play a crucial role in increasing the farmers’ income even during the pandemic. According to him organic farming helps to improve the health status of the soil and organic farm produce is helpful to improve the health status of human beings. He said that farmers can reduce the cost of cultivation by adopting the organic farming practices. The crops rotation, pulses production, multiple cropping, microbial cultures etc. in the organic farming are also followed by the farmers of the area. Farmers are applying Panchgavaya, Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Fermented Butter Milk, Neem oil etc. for the organic management of insect-pests and diseases. Many new farmers are coming forward for organic vegetables cultivation. |
