Major drop in mercury in Kashmir, pleasant weather to continue | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 17: There was a major drop in the mercury on Thursday due to fresh rain and cloudy sky coupled with winds in the Kashmir valley, where pleasant weather would continue during the next 24 hours. A Met department spokesman said here Thursday evening that scattered to light rain with thundershowers could occur in the Kashmir valley during the next 24 hours. During the subsequent two days there could be isolated very light rain and thundershowers, he added. Due to fresh rain coupled with cloudy sky and cold winds resulted in major drop of three degree to 6.3 degree in the maximum and 0.5 degree to 3.5 degree in the minimum temperature in the valley. The summer capital, Srinagar, witnessed about five degree drop in the maximum temperature on Thursday against yesterday. The maximum temperature in the city was 22.1 degree, 6.3 degree below normal while the minimum temperature was 14.3 degree, 0.5 degree below normal. He said the sky would be partly cloudy to very light rain and thundershowers and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be 28 degree and 14 degree respectively during the next 24 hours. World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, 55 km from here in north Kashmir, recorded the lowest 13.5 degree maximum temperature, which was 5.5 notches below normal while the minimum temperature was 7.2, 2.1 degree below normal. The famous health resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded 20 degree, 4.1 notches below normal while the minimum temperature was 8.5 degree, 1.6 degree below normal. At Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the maximum temperature was 24 degree which was three notches below normal while the minimum temperature was11.6 degree, 1.7 degree below normal. Kupwara in north Kashmir, the maximum temperature was 23.5 degree, 4.4 notches below normal while the minimum temperature was 13 degree which was 0.2 degree below normal. 4543 people fined for flouting COVID SOPs in Kashmir Srinagar, Jun 17 (UNI) As many as 4543 people were fined during the last 24 hours for violating guidelines imposed to curtail the spread of deadly COVID-19 virus in Kashmir valley. A police spokesperson on Thursday said continuing its efforts to curb the outbreak of second wave of Coronavirus, police enhanced its efforts to sensitise the masses about controlling the highly contagious Coronavirus in the valley. "During the last 24 hours, police realised fine to the tune of Rs Rs 6,59,680 from 4543 people in Kashmir valley for violating various guidelines/rules/SOPs regarding COVID-19," he said. He said special drive launched against the violators of COVID-19 guidelines/rules continued throughout the valley to ensure that people adhere to SOPs/guidelines envisaged by government to curb COVID-19 pandemic. "Community members are once again requested to cooperate with the Police in containing the spread of Coronavirus by following the SOPs/ guidelines/protocols for their own safety and for the safety of others. The special drive will continue throughout the districts of Kashmir Valley to strengthen the safety measures," he added. |
