MC Councilor Rajouri exposes ICDS Deptt for providing poor quality nutrition in Anganwari centres | | | Ankit Kessar Early Times Report
Rajouri, June 17: Raising serious questions on the nutrition provided by the ICDS Department in Anganwari centres, the Municipal Councilor of Ward 3 Rajouri alleged that the nutrition being provided is of poor quality and demanded inquiry in this matter. Talking to media, Istikar Ali Dar, the councilor alleged that the most of nutrition material supplied to Anganwari centres in his ward is of substandard quality. “There are three anganwari centres in this ward and the nutrition is distributed among 100 souls but shockingly some of the food material including Suji, Salt, dried peas were not of good quality. Interestingly the MRP of salt which is provided has been mentioned Rs 40 whereas the TATA salt which most of the public use is of Rs 20 per kilogram, which doesn’t justify,” he alleged. He said that he would not allow the department to distribute such poor quality of nutrition among children. He alleged that parameters set by the government were not followed in purchase of the nutrition. “There is a joint account of Councilor and the supervisor and they have to purchase nutrition but this time the department purchased itself and the material provided was found substandard and unfit for consumption,” he said. “There are clear instructions that the material should be of A grade quality but when I checked it in one of the Anganwari centre, it was not found of good quality and refused to distribute it among the children,” he said further adding that he wrote to the department but till date nobody contacted him in this connection. When the Project Officer was contacted he said that nutrition is bought after taking content from ward councilors and other stakeholders. “There is a signature of the councilor when it was decided on nutrition,” he said. |
